Privacy policy
How DeskCheckup handles your data: tests run locally in your browser, no camera, microphone or keyboard data is recorded or sent to our servers.
DeskCheckup ("we", "us") runs the website deskcheckup.com. This policy explains what data is processed when you use the site, by whom, and why. In short: the hardware tests run entirely in your browser, and we do not collect what your camera, microphone, screen or keyboard capture.
Hardware tests
The webcam, microphone, screen sharing, keyboard, mouse and display tests use standard browser features. Your browser asks for your permission before giving the site access to your camera, microphone or screen, and you can revoke it at any time in your browser settings.
- Video, audio and screen images are processed locally, on your device, only to show you the test results.
- Nothing is stored or sent to our servers or to anyone else. The only recording is the optional 3-second echo test on the microphone page: it stays in your browser's memory to be played back to you, then is discarded.
- Keystrokes and mouse clicks in the keyboard and mouse tests are only displayed on screen and discarded when you leave the page.
- The Pre-Call Check report you can copy is generated on your device; it only goes where you paste it.
- The network step of the Pre-Call Check measures latency by sending three small requests to Cloudflare's public server (1.1.1.1). They contain no test data, but like any web request they reveal your IP address to Cloudflare.
Data stored on your device
We store one setting in your browser's local storage: your theme choice (light or dark), under the name hc_theme. It never leaves your device, and you can delete it by clearing your browser's data for this site.
Hosting and security
The site is hosted and protected by Cloudflare. To deliver pages and protect the site against attacks and abusive bots, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies (for example __cf_bm), which do not track you across other websites. See the Cloudflare privacy policy.
Analytics
We measure visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-friendly tool that uses no cookies and does not track you across websites. It records aggregated, anonymous data such as the pages viewed, the referring site, the country, the type of browser and device, and page load times. See Cloudflare's Web Analytics privacy information.
The site's fonts are hosted on our own servers: no font is loaded from a third-party service.
Advertising
To keep the site free, we may display ads served by Google AdSense. When ads are enabled:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google's ad settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' cookies at aboutads.info.
- If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we will ask for your consent before any advertising cookie is used, and you can change your choice at any time.
Ads never have access to your camera, microphone, screen or test results. Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Emails
If you write to us, we use your email address and your message only to reply to you. We keep them as long as needed to handle your request, then delete them. We never sell or share them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in Europe), you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. Since we collect almost no personal data, most requests will concern emails you sent us. To exercise your rights, write to [email protected].
Children
DeskCheckup is a general-audience website and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
